Jazz Bass Lessons London
There is a whole different world beneath jazz — a language of walking lines, hip turnarounds, melodic counter-movement and pulse that never drops. The great jazz bass guitarists — Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Anthony Jackson, Steve Swallow, Esperanza Spalding — did far more than “hold the low end”. They shaped the harmony, carried the time and told stories with the instrument.
At the London Bass Institute, we teach adult jazz bassists the art behind that sound: how to walk with purpose, how to outline harmony with taste, how to phrase like a horn, how to comp with sensitivity, and how to solo without losing the groove. Our London-based Lessons are tailored to your level — whether you are brand new to jazz or already gigging and wanting to refine your language.

From lines that swing to harmony that breathes
Jazz bass is not about playing notes; it is about meaning every note. We build the ear, the feel and the harmonic logic so your lines sit with authority rather than guesswork.
By enrolling in jazz bass lessons at the London Bass Institute, you put yourself in the hands of a serious jazz player and step into a learning space shaped for adults who want to swing with intention. Every session is tailored to your ear, your taste and your present reality — whether you are just beginning to walk a line, polishing your time for band work, or already performing and hungry for deeper vocabulary. You can expect energising, expert coaching that builds feel, authority and musical imagination so you can walk, comp and solo with the confidence of a true jazz bassist.
Whether you play electric or upright, whether you are discovering jazz for the first time or polishing your vocabulary for the bandstand, you will receive serious, adult-focused jazz instruction in central London from dedicated jazz bass educators.
If you want to stop “trying jazz” and start playing like a jazz bassist, your lessons at the London Bass Institute are where that shift begins.
Course details
The London Bass Institute warmly welcomes adults from all walks of life who wish to study the bass guitar and develop their playing in an inspiring environment created especially for them. Whether you are a complete beginner with no previous musical experience, an intermediate player, or an advanced amateur, you are invited to join and refine your skills under the guidance of our highly qualified and experienced instructors.

Our bass lessons for adults take place weekly on a fixed day and time at our central London studios, located in both the City of London and the West End.
You may choose between 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons, and you can enrol at any point during the year.
With lessons available on weekdays up to 22:00, as well as on Saturdays, please contact our manager Stefan at enrol@londonbassinstitute.co.uk to arrange the most convenient day and time for your course.
All our bass lessons are tailored to your personal goals and needs. You are also welcome to prepare for ABRSM or Trinity examinations if you wish, though this is entirely optional.
We do not follow a rigid syllabus; instead, we adapt to each individual, as every student deserves dedicated attention.
We ask for an initial three-month minimum commitment, as a shorter period would not allow for meaningful progress. After this, your bass course continues on a rolling monthly basis at your chosen day and time.
If you would like to stop your course, we simply ask for four teaching weeks’ notice. You can give this at any time once you have completed two months of lessons, so that the initial three-month commitment is fulfilled.
You are also welcome to book additional intensive or focused lessons to accelerate your progress, or to prepare for a performance or examination.
Should you wish to arrange longer weekly sessions, such as 90 or 120 minutes, please let us know and we will do our utmost to create a course that meets your requirements.
