Funk Bass Lessons London
In funk the entire feel starts with the bass; it is the instrument that locks the track into place, gives the groove its weight and makes people move before they even realise. A true funk bassist understands pulse, space, subdivision and dirt. They place notes like punches, use silence like a weapon and make a two-bar riff feel as though it could loop forever without losing energy.
At the London Bass Institute we train adults to think and feel like funk bass players. You will learn how to carve a pocket that people trust, how to use muting and ghost notes to make the line breathe, how to craft riffs that feel inevitable, and how to apply slap and percussive techniques without losing time or taste. Lessons are adapted to your level, whether you are new to funk or already gigging and wanting more bite, more confidence and more vocabulary.

From clean timing to grooves that stick
Funk bass is not about decoration. It is about command. We work on your time, your touch and your feel so that what you play sounds settled, intentional and heavy.
By joining funk bass lessons at the London Bass Institute you put yourself in a focused, adult-only environment built for serious musical growth. Sessions reflect your present skill and your aims, whether you need to internalise 16th-note grids, tighten your muting, refine your slap mechanics or prepare for stage work. You can expect driven, practical coaching that builds pocket, clarity and personal style so you can make the band sit down on your groove.
Whether you are touching funk for the first time or sharpening your sound for live work, you will receive serious funk bass training in central London from musicians who understand the style.
If you are ready to stop “playing notes under the band” and start driving the groove, the London Bass Institute is where that change begins.
Course details
The London Bass Institute warmly welcomes adults from all walks of life who wish to study the bass guitar and develop their playing in an inspiring environment created especially for them. Whether you are a complete beginner with no previous musical experience, an intermediate player, or an advanced amateur, you are invited to join and refine your skills under the guidance of our highly qualified and experienced instructors.

Our bass lessons for adults take place weekly on a fixed day and time at our central London studios, located in both the City of London and the West End.
You may choose between 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons, and you can enrol at any point during the year.
With lessons available on weekdays up to 22:00, as well as on Saturdays, please contact our manager Stefan at enrol@londonbassinstitute.co.uk to arrange the most convenient day and time for your course.
All our bass lessons are tailored to your personal goals and needs. You are also welcome to prepare for ABRSM or Trinity examinations if you wish, though this is entirely optional.
We do not follow a rigid syllabus; instead, we adapt to each individual, as every student deserves dedicated attention.
We ask for an initial three-month minimum commitment, as a shorter period would not allow for meaningful progress. After this, your bass course continues on a rolling monthly basis at your chosen day and time.
If you would like to stop your course, we simply ask for four teaching weeks’ notice. You can give this at any time once you have completed two months of lessons, so that the initial three-month commitment is fulfilled.
You are also welcome to book additional intensive or focused lessons to accelerate your progress, or to prepare for a performance or examination.
Should you wish to arrange longer weekly sessions, such as 90 or 120 minutes, please let us know and we will do our utmost to create a course that meets your requirements.
